HOW TO USE THE FIRST THREE SMILEY SCRIPTS:
For use at
Xanga only. Copy the entire code in the white text box above
(including the script tags) and paste in the Website Stats box at your
Look and Feel page. You can find that by signing on to
your xanga site and looking in the left hand column for Look and
Feel. On the Look and Feel page, look for
Website Stats. Copy and paste the code in
the Website
Stats module.
Make sure the previous version of this script (if
any) is completely removed first. The script contains two arrays:
"textSmileys" and "realSmileys". The items present in the array
"textSmileys" will be automatically replaced with the corresponding images
in the array "realSmileys". You can modify the arrays as you see fit, as
long as both arrays keep the exact same number of items. For example,
suppose you want to add some smiley to the script... that would mean in
"textSmileys" you would add a shorthand like ":some_smiley:" or
{somesmiley}, and in "realSmileys" you would add it's url: http://www.dude.com/some_smiley.gif.
Note: Some have reported that they have been unable to modify the
script when following the directions carefully, but others have successfully modified it, so be warned. I cannot troubleshoot your problems with the script.
SETTINGS:
"maxNumberOfSmileysPerRow": number of
smileys that will be displayed in one row. Smileys above that number will
automatically be added to a new line. 10 by default. "buttonSize":
size of the smiley buttons in pixels. 30 px by default. The sample above
is scaled slightly different and meant only
to show you the entire smilies in the script. They will appear as they
do on Xanga with some of the frames not showing the entire
smiley on some of them, like the one with the "yes"
balloon.
HISTORY:
This script was created by EasterEgg, and has
only been slightly altered to add my own collection of smileys to some
already there. I also fixed the non-working links. I took it upon
myself to do this only because the images no
longer were available the way the code was written and the creator had decided that he no longer wanted to support the script he had written..... With thanks again
to EasterEgg from Alice of Xanga.
Please note. You are welcome to use this script and any others on this page, but please don't ask me to help you figure out what is wrong if a script doesn't work for you. Please understand, I am not an expert, and I am not part of the Xanga team. I am just a regular Xanga member like you. I have already given the best instructions that I can on this page.

This script adds custom smileys to your themed Xanga site. It is a completely new script, and is *not* backwards-compatible with the smilies created by the old "Smiley Script".
This script *only* works on themed Xanga sites. If you're using the classic Look and Feel on your Xanga, then this won't work for you. Upgrade to themes already! :)
The unmodified version of this script uses Everaldo's Emoticon icon set, available at http://yellowicon.com/downloads/
Internet Explorer 6 & 7
Firefox 2.0+
Safari 3
Opera 9.2+
1. Go to your public site: http://www.xanga.com/yourname
2. Click 'edit theme' at the top of the page.
3. Click 'Add Modules' in the theme editor toolbar.
4. Click 'Custom Module' in the module panel.
5. Hover over the title area of your new custom module (in the top of your main content area).
6. Click and hold the 'drag & drop' icon (upper right corner of the module) and drag the custom module down to the footer area of your site.
7. Click the 'edit settings' icon (upper right corner of the module).
8. Check the 'Hide Title' box.
9. Copy and paste this entire script, including these instructions, into the 'Html' box.
10. Click 'Done' to close the module settings.
11. Click 'Save' in the theme editor to save your changes.
Now go to a weblog entry on your site, where the comment box is. After the page loads, you should see the smiley icons right above the comment box.
If you don't see them, try clearing your browser cache and reloading the page.
If you still don't see them, delete the custom module from your page, and do it all over again, making sure you follow the steps precisely.
TO USE: To use your new smileys, just click them to insert them into the comment box. If clicking icons isn't your thing, then you can insert them as :text:. For example, to use the frown icon, you would type :ssfrown: into the comment box.
TO CUSTOMIZE: The smilies and their shortcut text are set up in the 'ss_newsmilies' variable, which is an array of objects with 'text' and 'source' properties, like this:
{'text':'ssfrown', 'source':'http://x52.xanga.com/de38227ad7008155300282/q116245332.png'},
The value of 'text' is what you type (between two colons) in the comment box to make a smiley.
The value of 'source' is the URL of the image that goes with that text.
You can modify the existing values below, or add your own.
If you want to make SuperSmilies work for old smilies created by the EasterEgg smiley script, take the values from 'textSmileys' and 'realSmileys' in the EE script, and plug them into 'text' and 'source' in this script. Don't include the colons from the original textSmileys values.
IMPORTANT: Every smiley definitiion below must have a comma after it, EXCEPT for the last one!
